Team members want to thank everyone who has helped to make the transition to calling a new senior pastor go so smoothly. Special thanks go to Call Committee members who were diligent and devoted to their task.
We know there have been countless prayers supporting this effort, and we ask for continued prayers as we move through the rest of the transition process.

Call Committee Update 5/16/2012
A special meeting of the congregation was held on Monday May 14, 2012 at 7:30pm at Bethel’s Downtown location. The meeting was for the sole purpose of acting on the call committee’s recommendation to extend a letter of call to Pastor John Lestock to become Bethel’s next senior pastor. The meeting was called to order and led by Edith Lampman, President of the Congregation. Jeremy Palm opened with a prayer followed by a presentation from the call committee. Those who attended then asked several questions and also made comments, as some members have experience with Pastor John Lestock or his current church in Owatonna, Minnesota. A vote was then taken by written ballot with the votes counted by Duane Austreng, Jennie Boeder, and Darrel Schoeberlein. After Skip James and Bill Jenkinson lead the congregation in song, it was reported by Edith Lampman that the result of the vote was 127 in favor of extending a letter of call to Pastor John Lestock with 1 opposed and no abstentions. The motion to extend a letter of call to Pastor John Lestock passed.
The appropriate documents have been sent to the synod for review. The synod office will then pass the forms on to Pastor Lestock. Upon receiving the letter of call, Pastor Lestock has three weeks in which to make his decision. Please keep Pastor Lestock and his wife, Janet in your prayers as they make this important decision that will have a significant impact on their lives.

Call Committee Update 4/22/2012
The call committee has interviewed all five candidates! The committee found that second interviews of some candidates is the appropriate next step. It is hoped and believed that those interviews can be finished by the end of April. Once the second interviews are complete, we trust that the Holy Spirit will guide the call committee when recommending a candidate to the Council for the position of senior pastor at Bethel Lutheran Church. This is an exhilarating time for Bethel! We hope you feel the excitement too! In Christ, Your Call Committee

Call Committee Update 4/8/2012
The call committee has completed three interviews. Two more are scheduled with one of the two likely completed by the time you are reading this. Once the first round of interviews is complete, the call committee may conduct second interviews with one or more of the potential candidates. This is an exciting time and the call committee thanks you for your patience and prayers during this process.

Call Committee Update 3/25/2012
The call committee has conducted one interview and has four more scheduled. The interviews should be completed by mid-April. Transition Team Report February 2012
The call process got underway Jan. 12 when Bishop Duane Pederson met with the Call Committee, Council, and Transition Team to explain the process.
He suggested that the Call Committee begin thinking about its interview plans and start formulating questions. The bishop said that he will be researching candidates from three sources—those who have expressed interest in the senior pastor position at Bethel, those recommended to him, and those pastors he knows who are ready to accept a new call. The search will go beyond the Northwest Wisconsin Synod, and he indicated that he would be in contact with his fellow bishops in other synods.
The Transition Team completed the Ministry Site Profile (MSP), and it was reviewed and approved by the Council. The MSP is a document that includes information about the organization and demographics of Bethel, its vision and missions, as well as demographics and facts about the Hudson community. It will be posted to the “ministry opportunities” listing on the ELCA Web site.
Anyone who knows of a pastor that he/she thinks is a suitable candidate for the Senior Pastor position may still submit that name and any information about that pastor to Chris Anderson, chairman of the Call Committee at at canderson@heywoodandcari.com. PLEASE NOTE: Do not tell that pastor that you have proposed him/her to be a candidate. The bishop/synod office will research that pastor’s qualifications. It is the bishop who presents the slate of candidates to be considered by the Call Committee.

From the Transition Team 2/5/2012
It is expected that names of candidates for the senior pastor position may be available in late February or early March. Names of pastors who were proposed by Bethel members have been forwarded to the synod office, and the bishop and the synod office are currently in the process of researching those pastors and other possible candidates.
In the meantime, the Call Committee has met several times to discuss interview tactics and to formulate questions that will be asked. The Transition Team continues to work with the Council in developing the governance task force and the human relations committee.

It will be posted to the “ministry opportunities” listing on the ELCA web site.

Four Stages of Transition
On the evening of August 26th and the morning of August 27th, the Transition Team, the Church Council, Staff, and the NW Wisconsin Bishop, Duane Pederson, attended a retreat at Highlands to discuss the transition process. It was a time of learning, praying, agreeing on the path which we will be on as a congregation over the next year, and finally a time of excitement for Bethel. The same group will again gather at the end of October to review the results of the Survey being completed by Bethel members between September 11th and October 3rd.
The mission statement that was collectively developed at the retreat is: "Our vision for the Pastoral Succession Plan is that it be a prayerful, deliberate and well communicated process which provides a smooth transition to a new senior pastor who shares God's and our direction for the future."
There are 4 Stages to the Transition Process:
DISCOVER—this is the current stage, during which we solicit information from the congregation through the Survey to understand where we are currently and where we would like to see us go in the future.
SEARCH—the next stage will begin after the retreat in late October, and this stage involves having the Church Council appoint a search committee who will work closely with the Bishop in defining the call, identifying candidates, and interviewing candidates.
DECIDE—the Call Committee is charged with identifying a candidate and making a recommendation to the Congregation for a vote.
CELEBRATE—as a congregation we will take time to celebrate the leadership and many contributions Pastor Nelson has made and also to celebrate the future and the arrival of our new Pastor.
Please pray for our church as we continue this process of transition.
